Ahhh. Celebrity Sex Tapes. It seems as if everyone in Hollywood has one. It is just the D-listers that want their tapes to be seen on the off chance that they rake in the big bucks and move up a couple rungs on the celebrity status chain. And some people have done just that!
We all know how Kim Kardashian ultimately became famous (yeah, the sex tape), while in the meantime she made her family a household name. And Paris Hilton? She supposedly didn’t want us to see her tape, but really…do you believe that? Bitch, please.
We’ve got a list of celebrities who either intentionally or not intentionally (translation=intentionally) released their sex escapades in hopes that one day they would be a star. Who succeeded and who didn’t?
1. PARIS HILTON: It was in a hotel room that Paris and her then boyfriend Rick Solomon got busy with a camera and incredibly annoying night vision to create their sex tape that would be released in 2004. Before this tape was released, Paris was a rich girl living life as a small-time socialite but this tape landed her a reality show and a zillion other opportunities.
2. KIM KARDASHIAN: It was back in 2007 that Kim and her then-boyfriend singer Ray J invited us all into the hotel room they got frisky in via video. Their sex tape leaked online and became a HUGE hit for Kim. Since the tape’s release, Kim took advantage of her new-found stardom by pursing a reality television show and accepting promotional gig after promotional gig to build an empire that includes a fashion line, perfume line, a shoe company and more. The girl is rich. During all of this, Kim’s momager helped create a career for each of her children. Just off of the sex tape, Kim earned over $6million after she struck a deal with the rights holders.
3. PAMELA ANDERSON: Pamela Anderson has been a sexpot her whole life so for her to have a sex tape doesn’t exactly shock me. What does seem to shock me is the fact that she has at least TWO sex tapes. Not only did her sex tape with then hubby Tommy Lee become one of the most famous tapes of all time, but the clip of her romp with Bret Michaels erupted in 2005 ranked up in there in popularity as well.
4. COLIN FARRELL: We all know that Colin is the bad boy we love to love. He may have tamed down a bit these days, but it was back in 2006 that he had his wild days, which included a sex tape with ex-Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain. It was 13 minutes of naughtiness that was released by Nicole. Colin was obviously effing pissed that she went ahead and tried to sell the tape without his approval. While Colin did succeed in blocking the tape from distribution, the days of the Internet leaking did not stop people from viewing the tape online.
5. DUSTIN DIAMOND: Dustin thought releasing a sex tape would help revive his career, but good gawd he was wrong. He was trying so damn hard to move away from the dorky character (Screech Powers) that he made famous on Saved By the Bell. Unfortunately, naming your sex tape “Saved By the Smell” certainly doesn’t help matters. And what smells besides his acting abilities?
6. FRED DURST: We all know he “did it for the nookie”, but did he really stick a cookie where the sun don’t shine? We’ll probably never know what happened on Durst’s said sex tape. Apparently his tape (filmed with an unknown woman) was published on numerous websites (after being stolen from his computer) without his permission. Even though Durst made millions during the peak of his music career, it was the sex tape that made him over $80 million in damages.
7. KENDRA WILKINSON: Before she hit the big time, Kendra had a sex tape. It was back in 2003 that Kendra filmed her tape and back in May of 2010 that the tape was released. It wasn’t until AFTER she became famous that peeps got a glimpse of Wilkinson doing the nasty. Be glad a Hugh Hefner sex tape has not been released.
8. VERNE TROYER:: He’s pint-sized and made a big mark in the movie industry, but who knew that a sex tape would erupt of Verne?! His live-in girlfriend at the time tried to make some big bucks with the release of a private home video that was supposedly released in retaliation of him kicking her to the curb. Even though Verne sued for infringement and invasion of privacy, Troyer was unable to settle and the video is still for sale. Any takers?
9. ERIC DANE: While you would expect a steamy video from McSteamy, his sex tape video co-starring his wife Rebecca Gayheart and Kari Ann Peniche ended up being a disappointment for many. Sure the trio was nude hanging out with booze and drugs, but there was nothing very steamy that took place on film.
10. MONTANA FISHBOURNE: Who knew that an A-List star’s daughter would be so hard up for fame and fortune of her own? Well, Laurence Fishbourne’s daughter Montana proudly released her sex tape along with a statement. Montana said, “I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape….I’m hoping the same magic will work for me.”
