The 8 Most Interesting Science Fiction Characters

John Carter opens up in theaters tomorrow and Disney has a lot riding on it’s $250 million dollar epic. But where does a sci-fi character like John Carter rank all time among his fellow space adventures?

Here are the 10 most interesting sci-fi characters of all time.

1. LUKE SKYWALKER- The hero of the original Star Wars trilogy. Luke leads a space rebellion against the evil Darth Vadar who (ancient spoiler alert) is actually Luke’s father.

2. BUCK ROGERS- Famously portrayed in the campy late 70′s tv series, Rogers was an astronaut who is involved in a freak accident in space.  He falls into a state of suspended animation without aging until he is reanimated in the 25th Century.

3. FLASH GORDON- The 1980 movie was a bomb, but Gordon has been around for awhile and has an interesting story. Gordon is a famous football player who crash lands on the planet Mongo, where he does battle with ruler Ming the Merciless.

4. JOHN CARTER- A Civil War veteran, Carter is transported to Mars after digging for gold in a mysterious cave in Arizona. Once on Mars, he realizes he has super human powers.

5. HAN SOLO- Back to Star Wars. Not the main hero, but just as important as Luke. A rebel without a cause, so to speak. This role made Harrison Ford a movie star.

6. CAPTAIN KIRK- The leader of the SS Enterprise, he is a bold captain ready for action.

7. SPOCK- Can’t have Kirk without Spock, right? No emotions? No problem. Logic rules his life.

8. HAL 9000- Computers can be interesting, especially when they are as evil as HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
